On April 14, the Executive, through Resolution No. 1, created the “Working Group for the Coordination of the Structure and Strategic Actions for the Recovery, Growth and Development of the Country”, in response to the COVID-19 crisis. This body envisages functions lasting for a period of 90 days and will begin work forthwith.

This working group will be responsible for coordinating structural and strategic actions to help the country recover and grow in response to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. As such, it will work with the States, Municipalities, Federal District, public and private sector companies, as well as with nonprofit entities, to develop proposals for coordinated actions so that the activities affected by the COVID-19 crisis at national level can start to recover.

The resolution also defines that measures will be proposed to secure the supply chain in strategic sectors and infrastructure with a focus on developing partnerships with the private sector. The group will be made up of one full member and a substitute each  from 16 ministries, leaving out Health.

While Bolsonaro is in favor of relaxing isolation measures and encouraging the widespread use of chloroquine, Mandetta has warned that it is necessary to maintain isolation to contain the spread of the virus and pointed out that chloroquine, in addition to “not yet having proven its efficacy against COVID-19,” also has serious side effects.
