With 115 votes in favor, 5 against and 4 abstentions, Congress backed the Prime Minister who, when outlining the government’s objectives and goals, called for broader and deeper strategies to tackle prevention and optimize hospital supplies. “The priority of my administration is, without a doubt, the fight against the pandemic,” he said.

He also said that the government will drive public investment in the productive sectors to accelerate economic reactivation; envisaging measures to boost private investment and actions to guarantee the “efficiency of the economy” as well as improve public services.

Unlike his predecessor Pedro Carteriano, Martos managed to get the Frepap and Podemos Peru parties to change their votes. He was endorsed by Acción Popular and APP, the major forces tipping the balance in his favor. With these results, Martos has become the second minister with the highest vote in the last 20 years.
