Peru
29 mayo 2020

On May 29, the plenary session of the Peruvian Congress issued a statement of confidence in the ministerial cabinet led by Vicente Zeballos. The premier presented his future government plan and the actions taken when Congress was not in session (September 30, 2019 to March 16 of this year). The cabinet of President Martín Vizcarra will continue in office.

Prior to the vote, legislators from different political groups had demanded that Zeballos take “urgent measures” with respect to the most vulnerable sectors affected by the pandemic, revealing a desire to work closely with Zeballos’s cabinet to overcome the current crisis the country is going through.

The groups who supported this initiative included Podemos Perú, Somos Perú, Frepap, Partido Morado, Alianza Para el Progreso and Acción Popular, while the blocs in opposition to the confidence vote were Fuerza Popular, Unión Por el Peru and the Frente Amplio.

Zeballos declared before Congress that he was willing to work in an orderly and coordinated manner and called on the legislators to make an effort to “build a thematic agenda that prioritizes urgent matters given the present situation.”
