The Prime Minister of Belize, Dean Barrow, has not extended restrictions on the production and sale of alcoholic drinks foreseen in Statutory Instrument 55. However on Sunday, April 26, Statutory Instrument 62 came into force authorizing companies in the sector to operate between 5 am and 7 pm and allowing food distributors and stores to sell alcohol between 8 am and 7 pm, thus lifting the restrictions in force during the quarantine period.

The new measures will remain in effect throughout the national emergency period, which PM Barrow himself announced would be extended by Congress later this week. This has not yet happened. The government still maintains social distancing and curfew measures (from 8 pm to 5 am) that must be followed, including those activities authorized to provide services during restricted hours.

Clubs, bars and rum shops are to remain closed until further notice. Fuel stations, food manufacturers, agricultural production, public transportation, waste management, and the construction sector, among others, will be allowed to operate. There will be no restrictions on air or sea freight, nor on commercial courier flights. Travelling between districts or towns will also continue to be restricted until further notice.
