Executive Branch opens public consultation to carry out procedures electronically and works with Japan on drug equivalence issues

On January 26, the Secretariat of Health (SSA in Spanish) opened, through the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement (CONAMER in Spanish), a public consultation containing a clarifying note that makes modifications to the agreement containing the procedures and services applied by the Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (COFEPRIS in Spanish), registered in the Federal Registry of Procedures and Services of CONAMER. Interested parties may send their comments at the following link. Mexico and Japan held their XII Meeting of the Committee for the Improvement of the Business Environment. On the occasion, it was agreed to coordinate efforts on drug equivalence. Both countries will deploy actions to work in this area during 2022. 

The draft bill clarifies that the Request for Sanitary Verification for Export and the Request for Sanitary Verification Visit for the Certification of Good Manufacturing Practices of drugs in establishments located in Mexico and abroad are not included among the procedures that can be carried out exclusively by electronic means. 

The meeting with Japan was held within the framework of the Agreement for the Strengthening of the Economic Partnership, which aims to promote bilateral cooperation, trade liberalization and the improvement of the business environment. On the occasion, it was agreed to work together on drug equivalence. The meeting was attended by COFEPRIS, Mexico’s Undersecretary of Foreign Trade, Luz María de la Mora, Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kentaro Uesugi, as well as representatives of the private sector of both countries.
