Argentina, Brazil and Mexico along with the remainder of the G20 member states have stressed the need to increase multisectoral actions to reduce the advancement of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) worldwide. This was expressed in the final declaration of the summit of Heads of State and Government of the international forum, which took place between November 30 and December 1 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Member states will continue to discuss the issue at the next G20 summit, to be held in Osaka, Japan, June 28-29, 2019.

In line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), G20 countries committed themselves to improving access to medical care and the quality of health services, as a means to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Delegations also recognized WHO’s central role in preventing, detecting and responding to national and international public health emergencies.

The G20 is an international forum that brings together industrialized economies and the world’s most important emerging countries. It is composed of: Germany, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, South Korea, United States, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, Russia, South Africa, Turkey and the European Union.
