During an interview to local media, the official assured that he doesn’t plan to make any major changes to the current legal framework of the health system. Among his main objectives, he has pledged to promote a policy of free medicines and supplies for the 20 million Mexicans who are not covered by any social security system. Alcocer also said he would discuss establishing a drug purchase monitoring program with the Pan American Health Organization. Finally, he said he wanted to increase government spending on health to 6-8 percent of GDP and legalize the therapeutic use of marijuana and other substances at the federal level.
