INCAA extends the Assistance Fund for the Reactivation of Filming for 700 million pesos
5 enero 2022

On January 5, the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA in Spanish) announced the extension of the Assistance Fund for the Reactivation of Filming for the production of national films that are ready to start pre-production and/or shooting between January 1 and June 30, 2022. The Fund is integrated with INCAA’s own resources for 700 million pesos (equivalent to 6.7 million dollars, at the official exchange rate) to be distributed among the applicants. You may access the measure by clicking here.

The Institute pointed out that “the pandemic continues to impose limitations for the normal development of the pre-production and shooting of films”. This tool is aimed at providing financial assistance to national producers who require it through an advance on account of subsidies, which will be discounted from those that the film should receive. It should be noted that although the fund is intended for domestic developers, international co-productions may also be classified as domestic films. In such situations, the benefit of the Fund will only apply to the Argentine co-producer and not to international co-producers.

The INCAA also explained that the advance subsidy will be paid in two equal installments (the first at the beginning of pre-production and the second at the beginning of shooting) and the maximum amount may not exceed 50% of the budget approved by the INCAA or the following ceilings:

  • National Animation films: up to $18 million pesos (approximately 175 thousand USD).
  • National fiction films: up to 15 million pesos (145 thousand USD, approx).
  • National documentary films and participants in Incubator competitions: up to 8 million pesos (approximately 77 thousand USD).

To access the payment, producers must:

  • Prove the start of pre-production or shooting, on the dates declared in the presentation.
  • Accompany all the documentation related to the early registration and contracts of the corresponding technical and artistic personnel, specifying the start and end dates of the personnel’s work in the two stages. This documentation will be considered in the cost statement.
  • Comply with the requirements established in this document. Among the sections of this document, it is important that the project has been declared of interest, that the project is not in arrears with obligations before the INCAA and other administrative bureaucratic aspects.
