United States Offers Reward for Capture of Chief Justice
24 julio 2020

n July 20, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo offered a reward of USD 5 million for anyone providing information to help capture the president of the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela (TSJ, for its acronym in Spanish), Maikel Moreno, after he was accused of corruption. Nicolás Maduro’s administration criticized the decision of the US government. Moreno is expected to issue a statement in the next few days.
Pompeo said that the president of the TSJ “is using his position of authority to receive bribes and influence the outcome of criminal cases in Venezuela.” It is worth remembering that last March, the US offered USD 15 million for the capture of Nicolás Maduro and USD 10 million for the president of the National Constituent Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, and the Minister of Industries, Tareck El Aissami. The Maduro administration declared that the United States has shown disrespect to Moreno “by levelling false accusations at him.”
