On August 20 National Assembly president, Juan Guaidó, called on the opposition to develop a political agenda to solve the institutional crisis that Venezuela is going through. In the coming days, he will meet with other opposition leaders to get their opinions on the proposal. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ, in Spanish) published a ruling obliging all local governments in the country to adopt the Petro cryptocurrency as a unit of account for the payment of municipal taxes. They have 30 days to apply the necessary administrative changes and implement the measure.

“I invite all democratic forces in the country to agree on a road map and solve the crisis in Venezuela,” said Guaidó. He proposed building citizen participation mechanisms to reject the legislative elections scheduled for December 6. In addition, Guaidó said that he will meet in the coming days with opposition leaders, such as María Corina Machado, Henrique Capriles and Henry Ramos Allup.

On the other hand, the ruling of the Constitutional Chamber of the TSJ requests local governments in the country to promote a “tax harmonization” and adopt the Petro cryptocurrency as a unit of account for the payment of municipal taxes. The opposition has denounced that this measure violates the constitutional principle of municipal autonomy
