On April 13 the Executive Power published a Decree extending the nationwide State of Emergency for a further 30 days. Nicolas Maduro’s administration is seeking to mitigate the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic on the population and on the economy. It should be noted that the term could be further extended if considered necessary by the Executive Branch. The ban on air traffic was also  extended, and both measures will be in effect until May 30.

The Executive Decree says that the “public calamity” of the COVID-19 pandemic requires national quarantine measures to be extended in order to protect and guarantee people’s right to health, life, and food. Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez explained that the country is managing to “flatten the curve.”

The National Civil Aeronautics Institute (ANAC, for its acronym in Spanish) has extended the ban on both commercial and private air traffic entering and leaving Venezuela until May 30. This does not apply to humanitarian aid flights and those involved in delivering cargo and mail, among others.
