Executive Postpones Presentation of Decree to Regulate OTT
Argentina
21 junio 2019

Following the pledge by the Argentine Congress and the Executive Branch to address the possibility of regulating foreign Over The Top (OTT) platforms in the course of the year, the Executive drafted a decree which it however has just decided not to publish, at least in the short term.

The announcement came in the first days of June, after the text of the decree had been drafted as the result of a meeting between government representatives and certain local companies and trade unions where the Executive indicated its intention to promote the production of audiovisual content in the country through foreign Over The Top platforms.

Congress is also studying a bill introduced by opposition senator Alfredo Luenzo (Chubut Somos Todos) to address this topic, although it seems unlikely to make much progress through the legislative process, despite consideration by advisors.

The bill being studied by Congress proposes that OTTs meet a 10% screen quota for Argentine production and that this be visible in the user interface, according to the most recent draft of the proposal (click here) presented by Luenzo.
