ARG: The executive branch re-launches the creation of an agency to evaluate health technologies
Argentina
22 noviembre 2017

President Mauricio Macri submitted the Labor Reform bill (#0392-PE-2017) to the Senate. A notable part of the proposal is the creation of an agency that will evaluate medicine coverage and health technologies. Legislative sources stated that the objective of the Cambiemos party is to achieve the preliminary approval of the bill before the end of the year.

If the current version is approved, the main objective of the agency will be to evaluate medicines, medical products, and procedures to determine the need to incorporate them into the services guaranteed by the public sector and the Mandatory Medical Program.

The bill was submitted to the Labor and Social Services Committee, chaired by Senator Daniel Lovera (PJ-La Pampa). It is expected that Lovera will summon Argentine Labor Minister Jorge Triaca and union representatives to defend the proposal.

The Executive Branch believes that the bill can move forward because of the agreements reached with the governors and positive discussions held with leaders of the General Work Confederation (CGT).
