On June 10, the director of the National Consumer Protection Authority of Indecopi, Wendy Ledesma, announced that individuals shopping online who experience delays in receiving the products purchased or receive only part of what was bought, will be able to file for compensation by lodging a claim with Indecopi. Ledesma stressed that meeting delivery dates is a contractual obligation of suppliers.

Ledesma said companies can offer compensation in the form of shopping vouchers or tickets, which will not affect their liquidity.

Similarly, the official said that in the event that a supplier is identified as being in breach of their responsibilities, in addition to a penalty ranging from a fine of 450 UIT (Tax Units), corrective measures may also be ordered as a form of “compensation for the consumer.
