On October 7, the Senate Constitution Committee continued its work to analyze the proposed amendments to the Personal Data Bill  (Exp. 11144). Capital Markets Coordinator Catherine Tornel spoke on behalf of the Executive at a recent Committee session held to discuss the amendments. Consensus was reached over the proposal to appoint the Council for Transparency (CPLT) as the implementation authority for the legislation. The Committee will continue to analyse the proposed amendments on October 14.

During the most recent session, the senators supported the idea that the Council for Transparency should take the lead on enforcing the new rights introduced by the bill, adding this faculty to the list of functions the Council already has, as enshrined in Bill  20285 regarding access to public information.

The proposed amendments related to the new structure of the CPLT are still pending the final vote, since the Executive has not yet presented them in an official text. Specifically, there still needs to be agreement on the appointment and renewal process for the members of the collegiate body to preside over the Council, and on how the CPLT’s functions will incorporate the areas of access to public information and personal data.
