On March 15, the Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE in Spanish) opened a public consultation on the preliminary draft of its Strategic Plan 2022-2025. This text includes the general objectives that the entity will pursue to promote market competitiveness, as well as the sectors that will be key in the development of its functions, such as the financial sector. The draft will remain open for consultation until March 24 and interested parties may send their comments to the following e-mail address: [email protected].

The preliminary draft establishes a series of institutional objectives that will guide COFECE’s work to fulfill its legal functions during the 2022-2025 period. Some of them are to prevent and correct market structures that hinder free competition; to combat anti-competitive practices; and to promote the application of competition principles between the public and private sectors to spread the benefits of economic competition.

It is also indicated that during that period, the financial sector will be one of the priority markets in which COFECE will focus its legal and regulatory actions.
