BRAZIL

On March 4, the Executive Branch published in the Official Gazette the enactment of Law 14,307 relating to the process of updating the coverage of complementary health care aimed at covering more treatments, among which oral therapies for oncological treatments stand out. You can access the text by clicking here.

The published law indicates that the National Complementary Health Agency (ANS in Portuguese) will have a period of 120 days after the initial request, extendable for another 60 days, to decide whether or not to include new elements in the list of mandatory coverage of the plans, among which oral cancer treatment is included.

The law also creates a technical support committee to advise the ANS in making decisions on new technologies and drugs, including transplants and highly complex procedures. The Committee for Updating the List of Procedures and Events in Complementary Healthcare will have its composition and functioning defined in the regulation of the law, but the text guarantees the representation of various sectors, such as the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM in Portuguese), an entity that represents the consumers of healthcare plans and representatives of the plans.
