PANAMA

On January 25, the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI in Spanish) published a resolution that adds products related to the audiovisual sector to the list of those authorized to use the “Hecho en Panamá” (Made in Panama) logo. According to the law that creates it, the objective is to identify goods produced or manufactured in Panamanian territory to promote the consumption of national products. The resolution is already in force.

The new regulation adds the products generated through activities that reach sectors such as audiovisual, copyright and creations, digital media, among others, as long as they are produced, processed and manufactured in Panama. In this case, natural persons with business activity or legal entities may apply to the Ministry of Culture for certification to use the logo.

According to the regulation of the law, among the requirements to be fulfilled by companies requesting the use of the logo are the delivery of a certification from the General Directorate of Industries of the MICI that corroborates the national production of the product, the certificate of Public Registry, the notice of operations, to mention a few. In addition, a description of the product must be provided.
