On October 6, the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, led the launch of the second version of the National Plan against Antimicrobial Resistance, in coordination with the Ministries of Education, Agriculture, Economy, Science and Environment. This strategy establishes the main lines of work for the period 2021-2025, with the objective of confronting infectious diseases by safeguarding the efficacy of drugs.
Minister Paris stated that “this second version of the National Plan Against Antimicrobial Resistance 2021-2025 maintains its commitment to the joint confrontation of infectious diseases, in a complex era in which infections have taken on a new protagonism due to the COVID-19 pandemic”.
According to the Executive Branch, the five main points of the document are: public awareness and professional training; integrated surveillance of antimicrobial resistance; infection control, both in hospital environments and in the community; monitoring and control of the use of antimicrobials in people, animals and agriculture; and the strengthening of basic and operational research in the field to provide evidence for public policy decision-making.
