Tax Reform: The Executive will present the bill before the end of this month
17 agosto 2018

Since President Sebastián Piñera took office in March of this year, the Executive has been working on a comprehensive tax reform with the aim of eliminating unnecessary taxes and stimulating bureaucratic simplification to facilitate payments and improve collection. Its presentation was scheduled for September, but due to the economic slowdown in Chile it will be introduced in Congress  this month. You can access a report prepared by Directorio Legislativo regarding this future reform by clicking here.

One of the central points of the initiative is to implement a mechanism for digital services to be taxed in Chile. Among the possibilities are to force companies in this sector to settle in the country and start operations before the Internal Revenue Service (SII). They also plan to impose a special 10 percent tax called the Digital Services Tax (DME).

It should be noted that, although the draft of the bill is almost ready (official sources believe that only formal elaboration details remain), changes can still be incorporated. To receive contributions, the Ministry of Finance launched on Friday, August 10th, a digital platform for citizens to present their contributions.
