The National Authority of Medicines and Health Products of Portugal (Infarmed) and the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (Aemps) organized the XII Meeting of the Network of Authorities in Medicines of Ibero-American Countries (EAMI). The event took place from June 26th to 29th in Lisbon. The objective was to contribute to consolidate the technical, scientific and regulatory apparatus in the field of medicines. The agencies responsible for the regulation of drugs in the member countries and entities such as the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America and the Dominican Republic (Comisca) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) attented.

Some of the topics addressed were the principles of good manufacturing and the application of good manufacturing practices guidelines; the regulatory frameworks of medical devices; the strategies against falsified and fraudulent medicines; and the pharmacovigilance of human-use medicines in the region, among others. EAMI has been working on these issues for almost two decades and has the support of the Heads of State and Ministers of Health of countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The Ibero-American network aims to generate knowledge in order to guarantee social access to health and quality medicines. It also seeks to ensure the efficacy, safety and correct identification of these products. EAMI thus continues to help regulate the sector in the member countries of the organization.
