PAHO Executive Committee passes resolutions to improve cancer prevention

In the 162nd session of the Executive Committee of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), which ended on June 22nd, resolutions to establish strategies and action plans to improve the health of the Americas were passed. The deliberations are aimed at consolidating an action plan for the prevention and control of cervical cancer. The human resources for health access strategy was also highlighted. The resolutions passed in this instance must still be endorsed by the PAHO Directing Council. This is expected to happen at the 56th meeting of the Council, which will be held in September of this year.

Among the resolutions that were passed by the Executive Committee, the plan of action that urges governments to prioritize the prevention and control of cervical cancer, by increasing public funding and the uninterrupted supply of vaccines against HPV, stands out.

They also made progress  in the action plan on human resources for universal access and coverage of health, which proposes, among other measures, to improve the development and strengthening the health teams capacities to ensure the population`s rights.

The resolutions passed by the Executive Committee will be analyzed in September during the 56th Directing Council of PAHO meeting, which will consider them with a view to prepare the final resolutions.
