On April 10th, the First Senate Committee ruled on the initiative that allows telephone users that do not wish to be contacted by companies with commercial or advertising purposes, to register in a National Registry of Users of Unwanted Advertising. The bill penalizes companies that contact previously registered users for that purpose. The measure can now be debated in the Senate.

The bill protects the rights of users of telephone services in any of its modalities, in order to prevent personal data from being used for purposes other than those originally agreed to. To this end, the bill creates the National Registry of Users of Unwanted Advertising.

Companies that carry out advertising campaigns through telephone services must first consult the National Registry of Users of Unwanted Advertising. Then, they will be legally authorized to contact users who are not registered in that catalog.

After its approval in the First Committee of the Senate, the bill can be debated on the Senate floor. It is possible that the Industry and Commerce Superintendence will express its opinion during the bill’s debate.
