REP. DOM. THE REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR MEDICATIONS, FOOD, AND HEALTH PRODUCTS IS SOUGHT TO BE STREAMLINED
28 septiembre 2017

The announcement was made by the Ministry of Health and the National Council on Competitiveness (COMPETITIVENESS) within the framework of the plan prioritized by the General Department of Medications, Food and Health Products (Dirección General de Medicamentos, Alimentos y Productos Sanitarios or Digemaps). The goal is to comply with the timeframes established for the registration of all these products, strengthening the Ministry’s role as the oversight entity in the area of health policies that benefit the population.

The Minister of Public Health, Altagracia Guzmán Marcelino, stated that the idea is to collaborate with companies and exporters that require the completion of these procedures, without neglecting the positive effects of the regulation for the country. Its implementation will go into effect based on the Regulatory Improvement Program created by Decree N° 192-07, which regulates the area of COMPETITIVENESS, and it will become a bastion of opportunity through the creation of collaborative spaces to facilitate compliance with the timeframes.

Ensuring the rights of the citizenry and the possibilities within the export sector are also goals that have been considered within the decision. Streamlining the timeframes for the registration of medications, food, and instruments associated with health contributes to the legislative framework, both at the national level as well as within the markets for which these products are intended.

Rafael Paz, the director of the entity tasked with the application of the program, valued the ministry’s openness and institutional cooperation, qualities that facilitated the creation of a suitable team to define the improvement of the health registry’s issuance process. The ultimate goal sought by the President of the Republic, Danilo Medina, is to provide greater assurances to the Dominican citizenry upon acquiring these products and respect the General Health Law (File Nº 42-01), which grants 90 days for the issuance of the corresponding records.
