On January 10, the administration of President Luis Arce made an announcement through the Ministry of Health and Sports, about its drive to accelerate the procedures for the health registration of medicines produced by national laboratories, and for importers requiring this permit to commercialize products. The process to obtain the authorization should take no more than 24 hours.
At a press conference, the director of the State Agency for Medicines and Health Technologies (AGEMED), Eliana Caballero, assured that medicines will be guaranteed, as 1,207 products are currently authorized for sale, 449 manufactured domestically and 758 imported. The official also stressed that the protocols for the registration of drugs were developed together with the Pan American Health Organization, the country’s different governorships and the Health Banks.
The Executive emphasized that their remit is to ensure the provision of medicines and supplies as part of the Strategic Plan to Fight COVID-19. For this reason, “customs import procedures for national laboratories are also a priority in terms of raw materials as well as the import of finished medicines, since the objective is to guarantee the supply of medicines throughout the country,” explained Caballero.
It should be noted that, in the event of any irregularity, the population can file complaints or claims using the form enabled for this purpose on the AGEMED web portal.
