On September 9, the Executive branch informed the appointment of Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez as head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. No official confirmation has yet been made as to whether Rodríguez will step down as Vice President or will serve in both positions simultaneously. This is expected to be informed by the government of Nicolás Maduro in the next few days.
Delcy Rodriguez has held key posts in recent years and has been Vice President of Venezuela since June 2018. Prior to that she was President of the National Constituent Assembly. Between December 2014 and March 2017 she was Minister of Foreign Affairs and between August 2013 and October 2014 Minister of Communication and Information. She studied Law at the Universidad Central de Venezuela.
