IMCINE opens multiple calls for the promotion of audiovisual productions call
13 enero 2022

On January 11 and 13 the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE) opened a series of calls for the production of films. Below you will find more details on each of them:

  • The IMCINE published the terms and conditions for participating in the Mexican Film Development Program (FOCINE). There will be three categories, the first being production support. There will be the following subcategories: consolidation and production of fiction feature films, production of documentary feature films, production of short or feature animation films, among others. The remaining two categories will be: support for exhibition and support for the preservation of collections. For each category there will be different requirements and funding amounts (ranging from USD 12,500 to USD 490,000). Depending on the category, national producers or in co-production with foreign agents may participate. The results of the call for proposals will be published on the website www.imcine.gob.mx no later than 90 calendar days after the closing date for the registration of projects. The calls will be open until February 10.
  • Also the IMCINE published the terms and conditions to participate in the support program for screenwriting, explaining that it consists of financial support to screenwriters to facilitate this activity, as well as research and other creative work. For this purpose, it indicates that the call reaches the writing of feature film scripts (understood as those that last more than 60 minutes) of fiction, animation and documentary. In this sense, depending on the type of script, economic support may be obtained according to the category of support and the availability of resources. In this sense, within the Digital Registration System, the participant may establish only one participation modality. These are: Direct Support for Screenplay Writing, Screenplay Rewriting Assistance and Advice for Plot Lines. Depending on the categories, the maximum support amounts range from USD 4,428 to USD 5,411. To register for the call, interested parties may do so through the following link, which will be available as of January 17.
  • Finally the Institute opened a call to support project development. IMCINE indicates that it reaches feature film, fiction, animation and documentary projects, only in their initial phase. It is aimed at production companies, directors and producers seeking to develop a professional film project. Among the requirements for participation, it is established that, in addition to a ready-made film script, there must be a director and a person responsible for the project before the Institution. It also states that the project may be submitted by individuals with business activities, and not exclusively by producers or production companies. To register the project, interested parties may do so through the following link, which will be available as of January 17. The registration period will be open until February 8.
