National Assembly celebrates opening of ordinary sessions in 2022-2023 legislative period

On January 5, the National Assembly of Venezuela completed the opening of ordinary sessions that installs the 2022-2023 legislative period. On the occasion, the legislators that make up the Assembly voted in favor of Deputy Jorge Rodríguez (Partido Socialista de Venezuela – ruling party) in his nomination for the presidency of the parliament, and defined the members of the vice-presidency: Iris Varela and Vanessa Montero of the Somos Venezuela party (allies of the ruling party). The Assembly is already in activity.

During the installation session, the President of the Assembly stated that the legislators “have the challenge to continue recovering the National Assembly, to listen to the demands of the Venezuelan people and to preserve the institutionality of the Parliament, which was affected during the last five years”. Likewise, the legislator highlighted the need to approve this year the Special Economic Zones Organic Bill and to maintain as a legislative priority those measures oriented to social protection, norms that guarantee human rights and economic recovery.
