BRAZIL

On October 15, the Executive issued Ordinance No. 2,466, setting up an Intellectual Property for Health Commission within the orbit of the Ministry of Health. In addition, the regulations in force were modified to set up an Intellectual Property Articulation Group (GAPIS, for its acronym in Spanish) for pharmaceutical products.

The Commission on Intellectual Property in Health (COMPIS, for its acronym in Spanish) is charged with developing, monitoring and supervising the application of the policy on intellectual property within the Ministry of Health. The Commission will meet ordinarily twice a year, and may also meet on an extraordinary basis whenever summoned by the coordinator. In addition, it will prepare an annual activity report for the Minister of Health.

The articulation group, for its part, has the function of identifying patent applications for pharmaceutical products and processes, including those considered strategic for public health policies.
