On October 17, the National Customs Superintendency (Sunat, for its acronym in Spanish), issued Resolution N ° 000180-2020 / SUNAT, giving the green light to the general procedures for “postal items transported by postal service DESPA-PG.13 (version 3)”. These regulations indicate that drugs used to treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and diabetes may be imported for an FOB value not in excess of ten thousand dollars. The measure is already in force.

The document stipulates that interested persons must file an exclusive declaration to import these drugs. To prevent these products from paying customs duties and General Sales Tax, importers must register drugs according to specific Sunat codes, as follows:

  • 4439, for drugs to treat oncological diseases and HIV / AIDS.
  • 4450, for diabetes medications.
