On August 3, the chairman of the Council of Ministers, Pedro Cateriano, announced that remote work will be extended until July 31, 2021 in line with the objective to promote new job creation and avoid further job losses.

Cateriano explained that measures will be taken in order to facilitate the continuity of work activities in a safe manner and to allow “compliance with labor rights despite the context of crisis.”

Among the measures that the Executive is envisaging are the Recovery Plan and Administrative Conciliation, so that employers and workers can agree on the best way to meet unpaid labor benefits due to the economic problems caused by COVID.

On the other hand, Cateriano indicated that the “perfect” suspension of work (leave without pay) had been established as a temporary mechanism to maintain the sustainability of companies, preventing them from being forced to adopt tougher measures, such as the termination of employment contracts or dissolution and liquidation.
