The Joint Committee on Tax Reform is scheduled to be reinstated next Tuesday, August 4, after it was suspended due to the health emergency, and is expected to resume work on the single tax reform proposal.

The committee will be simultaneously studying three tax reform proposals pending in Congress with the aim of simplifying the tax system. In addition to the government-backed bill, there are two more proposals on this subject: the Deputies’ bill 45/2019 and the Senate bill 110/2019. The idea is to unify the three initiatives and simplify taxation in the country.   

The committee was set up in March this year, after months of negotiations between deputies and senators. Although the legislators at one point held a session to discuss the agenda, work was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic decreed later that same month.
