On July 14, the Health Committee approved a measure unifying multiple projects on the timely detection and provision of quality comprehensive care for children and adolescents with oncological diseases. The initiative seeks to offer universal health coverage in the area of oncology for this age group, giving them priority and free care in quality comprehensive prevention and treatment. The text approved was subsequently debated in the Plenary.

The measure proposes that if a patient does not have social security, whether private or public, they may be immediately affiliated to the Comprehensive Health Insurance, and only need present their National Identity Document (DNI). According to the legislators, this law is intended to “benefit” the population under 18 years of age diagnosed with cancer in any of its stages, types or modalities.

The regulations also state that public or private Health Insurance Fund administration institutions will grant an economic subsidy equivalent to two Minimum Vital Remunerations to workers with a child or adolescent under 18 diagnosed with cancer, for the duration of their hospital treatment. They will also be offered a one-year period of paid leave.
