On June 22, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization called for an increase in the production of dexamethasone and for the drug to be “rapidly distributed worldwide,” as the steroid is considered to be effective in treating COVID/19 patients in critical condition.

During a press conference held at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva, Ghebreyesus stated that “production should be increased and dexamethasone should be distributed quickly and equitably, especially where it is most needed.”

“Fortunately, the medicine is low-cost and there are numerous dexamethasone manufacturers across the world (…) we are convinced that they can speed up production,” he added. We will continue to inform you regarding any updates.
