Duque Extends National Quarantine While Promoting Regional Flexibility
Colombia
23 junio 2020

On June 23, Colombian President Iván Duque announced that the mandatory lockdown would be extended until July 15. Despite this, Duque said that the gradual process of economic reactivation in the country would be maintained, “recovering our productive life and advancing towards the opening-up of trade.” However, the conditions required for people to fulfill the isolation and the list of activities excepted have not been modified.

The president published a decree on June 15 with a view to making the quarantine more flexible given the spread of COVID-19 in the country: the new modifications to the Mandatory Preventive Isolation mean that local airports and economic activity can reopen in those localities without any new cases.

Despite the extension of the lockdown, regional opening will continue in those places where COVID-19 cases are not reported as spreading. It is also expected that in the next few days Duque will announce a decree to support the extension of the lockdown.
