On February 13, Peru’s President Martín Vizcarra has appointed Carlos Lozada Contreras to be the new Minister of Transport and Communications, replacing Edmer Trujillo. Formerly Director General of the Roads and Railways department in this ministry, Lozada Contreras is already in office.

The new minister has a master’s degree in transport from the National University of Engineering, and specialized studies in financing public investment projects from the Catholic University of Peru. Lozada has worked at the Ministry of Transport and Communications since 2012 and was executive director of the Special Project for National Transport Infrastructure.

It is worth mentioning that Vizcarra has also appointed new figures to head up Justice, Education, Energy and Mines, and Transport and Communications, after officials were impeached or resigned for their involvement in the Odebrecht scandal.
