The law Allowing the Executive to Renegotiate the Public Debt has Been Passed

On February 5, the Senate unanimously passed the Foreign Public Debt Sustainability Management bill with 65 affirmative votes. The initiative submitted by the Government empowers the Executive branch to negotiate indebtedness through public securities issued under foreign jurisdiction. 

Economy Minister Martín Guzmán is expected to expound on the debt renegotiation and budget advances at a hearing with the Senate on February 12, according to José Mayans, the head of the Frente de Todos Senate bloc.

President Alberto Fernández aims to close negotiations with foreign creditors before March 31, and the Economy Ministry intends to keep the agenda tight to achieve this objective. During the second half of February, they will hold a 10-day round of meetings with public debt holders and a report will be prepared based on this.

In the first week of March, Argentina will determine the final structure of the offer and open the floor to questions from creditors. During the second week the offer will be launched and information meetings held, the third and fourth weeks will be employed to draw up the necessary documentation for its execution and the offer acceptance period will expire at the end of the fourth week.
