On October 30, the president of Peru Martin Vizcarra announced that the Council of Ministers approved the issuance of an emergency decree in order to control concentrations or corporate mergers. The president indicated that this document will serve to “guarantee a framework of adequate business competition”. The aim of the proposal is to “evaluate mergers and prohibit those that affect users,” he said. The decree is expected to be published in the Official Gazette in the coming days.

Vizcarra’s announcement was made during the presentation of the Ministerial Cabinet’s “work plan and measures” made by Prime Minister Vicente Zeballos. The president also indicated that a series of measures will be promoted in the coming month, centred around the five ‘axes’ of his government: integrity and fight against corruption, institutional strengthening, equitable economic growth, social development and decentralization for development.

For his part Zeballos, without giving further details, said they will boost measures to promote economic growth and the implementation of the national policy of competitiveness and productivity. He also mentioned that they are working on the development of a Multisectoral Strategic Plan for Financial Inclusion in order to generate more confidence in the population
