25 octubre 2019

Argentina will hold general elections on October 27 to choose its next President to rule from December 10 until the end of 2023. The main contenders are the incumbent President Mauricio Macri, who got 32% of the vote in the primaries, and former Chief of Staff Alberto Fernández, who got 48%. If the voting pattern repeats itself the next president will be opposition candidate Fernandez, flanked by former premier Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner as Vice President.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Deputies will renew half its seats (130) and the Senate a third of its (24). The opposition is expected to increase its representation in both chambers, nearing a quorum in the Senate.
