Venezuela

More than 60 foreign delegations gathered in Lima, Peru on August 6 for the International Conference for Democracy in Venezuela. Aside from agreeing to increase diplomatic pressure on Nicolas Maduro’s government, the conference failed to reach any significant consensus.

At the event, one of its main organizers, Peruvian Foreign Minister Néstor Popolizio, said “the indifference of the international community is not an option when the Venezuelan people are demanding solidarity from our countries”. While representatives from states such as Argentina, Brazil and Canada were present, among the main absentees from the region were Mexico and Uruguay, who cancelled their participation at the last minute.
