President of the National Constitutional Assembly (ANC), Diosdado Cabello, said August 14 that the ruling party intends to draft a bill in order to sanction non-governmental organizations (NGOs) receiving funds from the United States. No further details on the proposal were provided at this stage. 

Regarding these NGOs, Cabello said “they receive money from the empire to conspire against Venezuela (…). In the United States these acts are punished with life imprisonment”.

Meanwhile, the US Congress has started discussing a bill that seeks to provide assistance for the democratic reconstruction and development of Venezuela. If passed, it will authorize a budget of USD 200 million in humanitarian aid for Venezuela and an additional fund of USD 14.5 million to support civil society organizations that advocate for democracy.
