Colombian President Iván Duque said he will file a complaint against Venezuela before the 74th UN General Assembly for “sponsoring and protecting terrorist groups”. The country’s actions, in his words, constitute “a flagrant violation of Security Council Resolution 1373/2001” on the fight against terrorism. Assembly sessions will begin on September 17, 2019.

Duque had already claimed on several occasions that the Venezuelan government endorses the protection of individuals associated with the National Liberation Army and the FARC who should be brought to justice – among them, Iván Márquez and Jesús Santrich. On July 28, at the Sao Paulo Forum held in Caracas, Nicolás Maduro had welcomed them to the country.
