On August 13, the Chamber of Deputies officially launched the Parliamentary Front to Prevent and Combat Childhood Cancer. Coordinated by Bibo Nunes (Partido Social Liberal –– ruling party), the front will be made up of 216 deputies from different parties who will be looking at the situation across the country with a view to drafting measures to combat the disease in the medium term.

The Parliamentary Front will be accompanying and overseeing the public policy, programs, and actions launched by the Executive and the Legislative to combat childhood cancer in Brazil. The framework will also seek to promote debates, symposiums and seminars to foster discussion on specific health policies.

Fronts like this one are often created by the legislators from the 513-strong chamber of deputies to organize legislative priorities, debate specific issues and help build consensus. This front, which represents the commitment of deputies to work on the issue, is expected to drive various meetings with the Ministry of Health and representatives from international organizations with a view to producing legislative initiatives in the medium term.
