MEXICO

On December 29, the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE in Spanish) published, through the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement (CONAMER in Spanish), a public consultation that establishes the application guidelines for the Mexican Film Promotion Program. The purpose of this program is to grant economic resources to promote film projects. The draft should remain under consultation until January 27. However, it is not ruled out that the guidelines will be enacted before that date through the Official Gazette. Interested parties may send their comments at the following link

The text provides for the granting of subsidies to support the financial consolidation of feature film projects. This includes those individuals or companies seeking financing for the production of fiction, documentary, animation and children’s films. It also specifies that the amount of this subsidy will be up to $12,150 dollars.

What documentation must I submit to apply for the subsidy?

Among the documentation that must be submitted by legal entities wishing to apply for the subsidy, the following are the most important:

  • constituent act registered in the Public Registry of Property and Commerce and power of attorney of its legal representative.
  • current official identification of the legal representative
  • proof of tax status, with tax identification card with QR code, with a printing date no older than one year.
  • tax compliance opinion, no more than 3 months old
  • proof of tax domicile with an issue date no older than three months; and
  • a curriculum vitae, in which the company’s track record in film production is evidenced.

Finally, the text specifies that the registration of projects will be done through the online registration System, and that the period for receipt of projects will be from January 10, 2022 to February 10, 2022 until 23:45 hrs (Central Time).  The results of the call for proposals will be published on the website www.imcine.gob.mx and on its social networks, no later than 90 calendar days after the closing date for registration of projects. Applicants will be notified by the Film Production Support Directorate (DAPC in Spanish) within 30 calendar days of the publication of the results
