Colombia launches National Intellectual Property Policy
6 diciembre 2021

COLOMBIA

On December 6, Colombia’s National Planning Department (DNP in Spanish) approved document CONPES 4062, which establishes the policy to protect and encourage intellectual property (IP). This initiative defines actions to improve the commercialization and use of intellectual creations (designs, artistic creations), particularly some aimed at the creative and cultural industries. It is already in force.

The document details the complete diagnosis and defines the objectives that the policy will pursue: to generate enabling conditions in the intellectual property system for the creation and management of assets; to strengthen the use of intellectual property protection instruments to consolidate the national system and facilitate its interaction with international standards; and to promote the effective defense of intellectual property rights to reduce infringements in the system and fight piracy. The policy will be implemented over the next 10 years and an investment of $21,000 million (USD $5.2 million) will be allocated.
