MEXICO

On December 2 the Mexican Senate passed the appointment of Victoria Rodriguez Ceja as a member of the Board of Governors of the Bank of Mexico (BANXICO). It is expected that the appointment will allow the official to assume the governorship of the entity once the current incumbent completes his term at the end of December 2021.

The nomination was approved with 78 votes in favor, 21 against and 10 abstentions, after multiple attempts by the opposition to dismiss the official’s candidacy due to new arguments of her lack of experience to hold the position.

However, no recourse succeeded and the president of the board of directors of the Senate, Olga Sánchez Cordero (MORENA-Ruling party) swore in Ceja, who will begin her duties at Banxico on January 1, 2022.
