MEXICO

On November 30, the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT in Spanish) and the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Financial Services Users (CONDUSEF in Spanish) signed an agreement on cybersecurity and financial operations. Through this agreement, the entities undertake to coordinate practices with a view to promoting the responsible use of digital technologies in financial transactions and the achievement of a secure digital ecosystem. The ceremony was attended by the head of the IFT, Adolfo Cuevas Teja, and the head of CONDUSEF, Óscar Rosado Jiménez. The agreement is already in force.

The agreement seeks to facilitate, between the entities, the exchange of statistical information, good financial practices, studies and research necessary to outline the necessary measures to reduce the risks and threats to which users are exposed. Likewise, the agreement establishes the general bases from which these entities must carry out actions to promote education, training and technological development to promote a culture of cybersecurity.

During the event, Adolfo Cuevas remarked the increase in the use of digital devices and services for different activities by the population, which derives in the need to advance in agreements “for the protection of data and its use without fear by the users”, as well as to guarantee the protection of their rights.

Óscar Jiménez, for his part, emphasized the increase in the digitalization of financial services, which exposes users to situations of vulnerability. In this sense, he welcomed the signing of this agreement because through the training on the responsible use of financial services and on the potential risks, it will be possible to “reduce the cases of fraud”, thus providing “security and certainty in their financial transactions”.
