On November 19, the second round of the working groups of the National Directorate of Public Registries of Ecuador (DINARP in Spanish) was held for the construction of the Regulations to the Organic Law for the Protection of Personal Data. The event included discussions on issues related to data protection delegates, the control authority, large-scale information processing, codes of conduct, rights of access and opposition, and the auxiliary control system, among other aspects. The regulation is expected to be published in the coming weeks.

This regulation will develop the way to guide the actions that public and private companies will have to take regarding the Data Protection Law, approved in May of this year. The initiative should help to understand “which is the way for public and private companies to comply with this right we have regarding the protection of personal data”, said Jorge Guerrón, representative of civil society and technology institutions.

“Personal data are necessary for the integration between individuals and institutions, but this entails great responsibilities on its use, care and protection, that is why it is important to have a law that ensures these rights and a regulation that serves for its implementation” said the national director of DINARP, Angie Jijón Mancheno, during her speech. She also stressed that these spaces are executed on dialogue and joint cooperation between the various sectors that are involved in these activities that will benefit citizens.
