On September 10 the Secretary of Domestic Trade regulated the Shelves Law for the online stores of supermarket chains. The companies have a period of 60 days to adapt their virtual stores to the obligations contained in this measure.

The new regulation established by the Secretariat of Domestic Trade, which depends on the Ministry of Productive Development, determines that supermarkets’ virtual stores must order the products of each category from lowest to highest according to their price per unit of measure. In this way, consumers will see first the products of lower price.

In addition, the sites must indicate the lowest-priced product within a category with a logo previously approved by the Secretariat of Domestic Trade. Finally, products made by MiPymes (micro and small enterprises, family, peasant and indigenous agriculture, popular economy, cooperatives and/or mutual associations) will also have to carry a label to facilitate their visualization.
