BRAZIL
On September 3, the Executive Branch published in the Official Gazette a provisional measure that determines a term of up to 180 days for the National Complementary Health Agency (ANS in Spanish) to carry out analyses for the incorporation of new technologies in the coverage of the Unified Health System (SUS in Spanish). You can access the Provisional Measure by clicking here.
The measure regulates the process of incorporating complementary health technologies. It establishes a period of 120 days, with an extension of 60 days when circumstances require it, for the ANS to carry out the corresponding analysis to incorporate new technologies in the coverage of this area. The initiative contemplates an analysis of effectiveness, safety and cost-benefit of the insertion of procedures and equipment offered by the health plans.
It also determines that the automatic incorporation of procedures and drugs will be carried out if the ANS does not complete the analysis within the specified period. In addition, procedures and drugs already authorized in the Unified Health System (SUS) must be included in the list of coverage of the health plans. The inclusion must occur within 30 days after the decision of the National Commission for the Incorporation of Technologies in the SUS (Conitec in Spanish).
